Feeling Tired

I’ve been working a bunch of shifts lately, so I’m so tired and run-down. I need a vacation. It’s good to get hours because I can use the money, but it has caused me to fall behind on other things. My apartment is in serious need of cleaning and I have a list of errands that need to be done a half-mile long. How do other people manage? I cannot wait until I have my own personal robot assistant to do all of these things for me. That should happen soon, right? Just like flying cars, I’m sure.

Even with being beat, I’ve been trying to set aside some time for my writing. It’s hard though, especially since I tend to be super-critical so I have a hard time doing a puke draft. You know, the first draft where you just write and write and don’t worry about editing as you go. You can really get stuck in editing and never even get the first draft done if you don’t focus on just getting the words out.

That is one reason I started blogging. I don’t know that anyone is reading this and that isn’t the point. It is just that I need to find a way to write and write and write without worrying about the words. So if I’m stuck staring at my computer screen (or pen and paper if I’m feeling old school), I’ll log into my blog and try to write nonstop for a few minutes. And then once the juices are flowing I’ll get to work on my fiction.

I’m afraid that I am losing my creativity. I was much more creative as a high school student. But back then I did spend a lot of time reading and writing. Have to schedule those activities now.

Coffee Makes Everything Better

I was feeling sluggish all day so I stopped at Starbucks on my way home. I always feel kind of guilty when I go there because this city has a couple of awesome indie coffee shops. Their coffee is better and I would hate for them  to disappear and only be left with Starbucks. But Starbucks is on my way home, so I do stop in there about once a week or so when I’m feeling rushed or having a caffeine emergency. Seriously, what did people do before coffee shops.

Starbucks is right next to a bookstore, so I popped in there as well. I love to read, but I don’t have as much time as I would like. I already own a few books I haven’t even opened yet, so why did I go to the bookstore again. Anyway, I think I showed remarkable restraint and only bought one book. But I won’t buy any more until I finish a couple of the ones on my shelves!

My bookshelves are getting crowded, so I’ll probably have to weed them out and sell or get rid of the ones that I probably won’t read again. If I owned a home I might just buy another bookshelf, but I plan on moving in the next year or so and I don’t look forward to lugging boxes of books across country.

Missing Riley

Isn’t he just the most handsome dog in the world. I’ll have to go home soon to see him. I’m sure he misses me as much as I miss him! I know Mom spoils him, so he probably hasn’t even noticed I’ve left.
Can’t have any pets here. Well, I could get a fish, or maybe a hamster. But no cats or dogs. :(   Maybe I’ll get a rat. I’ve always thought that they were cool, but never really thought about getting one before.

How long do rats live? Do I need to buy a bunch of stuff before hand? Do you need to have two at a time so that they won’t be lonely?

Yeah, I don’t know enough to make a good rat-mommy. Will probably spend hours googling but will probably not get a rat. I won’t be living here forever and soon I’ll be somewhere with an actual yard. Even if I was allowed to have a dog here I wouldn’t want to have one cooped up without a yard to play in. There’s a dog park not too far which I suppose I could use, but now I’m rambling. :-)

Update on My Life

Ugh. Have to go to the dentist next week. Not looking forward to that. Of course, no sane person would. Will be stocking up on apple sauce before then. I would stock up on ice cream, but my teeth are sensitive to the cold right now so apple sauce it is. Which I like as long as it has some cinnamon in it.

In other news I’ve been rocking Rock Band recently. If only I were so talented in real life. Mark, Brit, and Steve came over the other night to be amazed at my skill. We don’t get to hang out much since Steve moved, so it was good to have everyone back together again. Stayed up way too late and I didn’t get to study for my chem test, but I think it was worth it. Didn’t have anything to do that morning so I was able to sleep in for once. Yay!

Now I really do need to get some studying done before my shift. Hopefully the tips will be good tonight because being a broke college student sucks. So does being a waitress, but a girl needs money to survive, right?
